I have a number of presentations that I can't view at all in Slide
Show mode on my Dell Inspiron. I can open them in PowerPoint, but when
I try to change to SlideShow mode (or just try to open a pps file) I
can see an reference to the show in the task bar but there is no
presentation. I can select the other applications. The Task Manager
shows that it is running.

I've tried reinstalling PowerPoint but that has no effect.

Any thoughts?

thanks
james

Yep:

Can't run slideshow / screen show won't start; Icon appears on task bar
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00426.htm

Betcha that fixes it.

Bingo! That did the trick. Well, that helped me find the real culprit.
The presentation was using the primary monitor. But my notebook is
connected to a port replicator with a video out that I never use. The
port replicator was configured so that the unused video out was the
primary and the notebook itself was the secondary. A quick change to
turn off the unused video out and the presentation worked like a
charm.

Thanks for the help!

Aha ... thanks for the added info. I'll add this to the FAQ.
