Hi. Right now I am MAD! I have an HP F3500 all in one. I'm able to print,
but none of the scan options will work with this version of VISTA. It
appears that they've made it so that neither of the home versions have the
option for scanning or faxing, even with a plug-in, but this is not the way
it is advertised. I was told that this version should do everything XP did,
so I guess that was a lie. Does anyone know how I might be able to get
around this and use my scanner without having to pay to upgrade?

You need t get the VISTA driver from the manufacturer website for your
multifunction. While the printing part might work the the current driver, it
does not mean the other functions will work with the driver.

I guess I should have mentioned that HP doesn't have the VISTA drivers
available yet, but it doesn't much matter since faxing and scanning are not
enabled within the Vista Home Editions.

Not sure what you mean by "... scanning are not enabled " I have a Epson
Perfection 4180 scanner that is seen by the " control panel -> hardware and
sound -> scanners and cameras' panel.
Twain scanner is seen by the normal programs (i.e. paint) that would want to
acquire a scan.
(Vista Home Permium)

He means "microsoft fax & scan" is not included in premium, only in business
and ultimate.

I can't find a HP F3500 all in one on their website -- I do find a
Deskjet F350 multifunction. Could you clarify what you have please.

First of all you might try the Reset as described in their
troubleshooting:

Resetting the All-in-One

Press the On () button to turn off the unit.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the unit.
Connect the power cord to the back of the unit.
Press the On () button to turn on the unit.

When you installed VISTA was the all in one connected to the PC and
turned on? If it was this might have caused the wrong driver to be
installed for it.

What you can try is to go to Device Manager / Hardware and find the
entry for the device. Then double click on the line it is on and select
Driver TAB and tell it to Update the driver -- tell it to look on the
internet as well as on your PC. It may find one or it may come back and
install one that is more recent. It's worth trying.

Otherwise you will have to wait until HP catch up and issue complete
software for VISTA and your machine.

You may not be able to use the Fax & Scan part of VISTA itself but have
you tried using HP software and faxing or scanning through it? If you
want to try this with VISTA and the XP software, disconnect the all in
one from power and unplug the USB cable from the PC before you install
the software. You may also have to remove all references to the all in
one in Device Manager and in the Control Panel / Printers section.

I have my old HP SJ5P scanner working under VISTA in the same way as I
got it to work under W2K and XP -- I installed older HP Software that
used TWAIN to connect and it's fine.

That's right, Peter. So am I right that there's nothing I can do to make it
happen?

Sorry, you're right. I typed that wrong. It's the F300 Series, but I'm not
home, so I'll put the exact model number on here later. They haven't created
drivers for Vista for it yet though. I am trying to see if there is a way
around it. Thanks.

Vista Home editions don't CONTAIN faxing or scanning solutions. That
doesn't mean they DISABLED faxing or scanning. If you buy or somehow
acquire faxing and scanning solutions from another source (for instance,
from HP) that are Vista compatible, then they'll work. Microsoft isn't
disabling your other software.

Okay, thanks. That last suggestion might be helpful... I'll give it a try.
I've already done everything else that was suggested.. the reset and all of
that. BTW, the correct model is HP F335.
