Since the info below is still happening. I am posting this
through the Admin log in after booting up in "safe mode
with networking".

I just used windows update to obtain the sp2 fix and then
restarted my computer. Now it seems that when I try to
enter any information on a webpage, ie will not respond.
I tried webmail and also uploading a picture to a web
forum. The progress bar at the bottom of IE 6.0.2900.1800
will sloooowwwllly fill up (about 1 to 2 minutes most of
the time - while doing this, the site just hangs and has
been for 5 minutes at 1/2 progress).
Now it just clicked over with the "page can't be
displayed" error with explanation the the page is not
available and the website may be experiencing difficulties.

I thought maybe that win_update didn't work, so I d/l the
226MB SP2 pack for IT pros and installed that one - same
thing.

Also, when in a secure site and changing to another secure
site with the same user information, i get the same error.

help please,

chris

I need to add some information. After posting this
thread, i found a new section under WINDOWS XP and then
under NETWORKING AND WEB.

same basic error that i was getting. the respondant
stated to see if the WINSOCK was broken and if so try the
following. I ran the winsock fix and now my problems are
solved. just for the record, i didn't just come here and
post a question, i did a lot of research first.

Here is what that person stated.
