I had to "restore" my Windows ME, using the HP disk that came with my PC. Now
I can not get IE 6 to update. I have tried Windows Updater and from the
download site. I get an error message that says:

"Setup was unable to install all of the components, please close all
applications and try running Setup again"

I tried with virtually nothing running at startup and NO firewall
or virus protection running I still get the same error. Can someone help ???

Had you upgraded to IE6 before "restoring" WinME, Ernie? If so, you're now
suffering from 'version soup'. Please post further to this WinME-specific
newsgroup to which I'm crossposting my reply:

For the "unable to install all components" issue with IE6SP1 in WinME, try
this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee
