version expired 31/12. Have downloaded latest with the intention of extending
to july. I get a successful install message, but when I try to launch I get a
superimposed window telling me my version expired 31/12.

What should I do next please?

Same thing happened to me... I re-formatted my hard drive and now I cannot
download a working copy of this program... When I go back and click the
update link, download and install it alsoi, I get no change in error message
applet.

Please follow the thread "AntiSpyware" started by
Karson 1/1/2006 on microsoft.private.security.spyware.announcements

For more solutions, type update, on the Search For:

I hope this little assistance is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.

I looked at another thread and followed advice from Bill Sanderson to
downlaod from Majorgeeks. In short it worked and I now have an updated
version running, with an expiry of 7/ 2006. Clearly there is something wrong
with the version available on the Microsoft Downlaod site. Apart from not
recognising that it was an update, it did not ask me to restart - the
Majorgeeeks version did. Hopefully this is being followed up now, otherwise,
a lot of people are going to waste a lot of time

Please try these, in order and say what works or does not:

1) download again, taking care to save the downloaded file to the desktop.
Once downloaded--double-click the desktop file to upgrade. If the first
message you see asks whether you wish to upgrade, you've received the right
version.

If this fails,

2) Go to Start, all programs, Microsoft Antispwyare, Microsoft Antispyware
update and double click that. Wait some period of time--perhaps an hour--to
see whether you are offered an upgrade via a popup in the right corner of
the start bar. If so--accept that offer, and see if it is successful

If both of these fail, also let us know--there are other things to try.

That's my choice 3, if you see my responses elsewhere to this issue. I
believe this can be resolved without resorting to the third-party site, but
I need some folks to try the alternatives and let us know what works.

Bill very happy to try these out - it may however be tomorrow morning before
I get back to you - its 23:15 in Germany. The version I downloaded is
certainly hunky dory - and it prompted me to run a scan - which I did

Bill I followed step 1 and there was not a problem - it worked properly.
Question is though does this take us / you any further since I have already
installed and upgraded my previous 31/12 expired version. (with the update
from Major Geeks). Shouldnt this be tried with a user who is still on the old
version? By the way I didnt really get a question asking me if I wanted to
upgrade - i clicked to install and came the screen where I was asked if I
wanted to update or remove - is this what you meant?

If you have the right version, I wouldn't worry about testing this stuff
further--I'm just looking for somebody who still can't update to get clear
which piece of advice is the simplest to get the job done--other than going
to a non-microsoft site.

Thanks!

What you saw was correct for that scenario.

If you have .615 in place, and the download is also .615, you'll get the
same set of choices you saw, but in your case it was .701 in place, and a
download of .701.

If you have .615 in place, and the download is .701, you get a completely
different initial dialog, which just asks whether you want to upgrade.

No need to test this further--I need somebody who is still stuck on
..615--thanks, anyway!
