Can't Uninstall due lost folder

I have an Uninstall problem.
The problem is that an internet based facility (BBC iPlayer)
does not like my WMP11 installation and tells me to update it
to the latest version - but I already have that.
I've tried to reinstall it, but it won't roll back to the previous WMP9
version.
I believe the reason is because I have "lost" Folder $ntUninstallwmp11$,
and perhaps others.
Can the folder be downloaded from anywhere?
I have tried reinstalling WMP11 over the existing installation, but the
problem remains.
Failing that, is there any reliable removal software - preferably free.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should be able to reinstall WMP 11 after deleting this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\wmp11
