Have you run Office Diagnostics? If it comes back all okay, then try
starting Outlook in Safe mode.
start->run->outlook.exe /safe
In Safe Mode, disable all add-ins. Restart Outlook normally. If you can
create a new message, try re-enabling the add-ins one by one, restarting
after each, and see if/when the problem recurs.
When you find the offending add-in, either uninstall it or go to the
program's website to see if they have an updated version that works with
your verison of Outlook.
BTW - do you have an older version of Plaxo installed?
