Just upgraded to Win 98SE, just connected to DSL, was going
through Windows Update and downloaded some recommended
non-critical files, restarted and then discovered I
couldn't type in any search box or user name box or
password box. I'm sending this in Netscape, where I can
still type. Any ideas how to fix?

Some parasites while capturing keywords will do just that.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
