Can't turn on IrDA on Intel MacBook Pro using Windows XP Pro

I am trying to turn on the IrDA (infrared) on my Intel MacBook Pro so I can
connect my Polar heart monitor to upload files. The manual for this
particular unit (CS400) requires IrDa connection. It will not connect with a
IrDa/USB unit.

I am running Windows XP Pro. I have tried the control panel, but IrDa
doesn't show up. Someone told me if I hold the F2 key dowm during bootup, I
can get to it and turn it on. It will then appear in the control panel. No
luck.
Does anybody know how to do it? Can it be done?
Thank you in advance

Have you checked your Bios to ensure it's enabled there, before you attempt
the control panel.

Leopard or Tiger? Running Boot Camp or from within OS X with Parallels or
VMware Fusion? If Bootcamp and Tiger, did you remember to install the
Windows drivers from within the Windows install? If Leopard, did you run
the Boot Camp assistant once in Windows?

If you already installed the Boot Camp drivers and IrDA is not available,
check with Apple tech support as to whether this function is available to
Boot Camp. If you are using virtualization with Parallels or VMware Fusion,
check with Parallels or VMware as to whether the IrDA function is
virtualized (it may not be).

Hi Malke
Thanks for the input. I am getting closer. I was just on tech support with
Apple and they helped me install the Boot Camp drivers. I am running Leopard
v 10.5.
I am in Windows now. When I open the Device Manager, "Infrared Devices" is
not listed. Windows Help tells me it is in the hardware settings called Bios.
They want me to turn it on in Bios. I hold an f key down to get to it when I
am booting in Windows.I should open in the DOS environment and see Bios as an
option. So far, F2 and F8 doesn't work. Do you have any suggestions, other
than rebooting again and again for each F key?
Thanks for your help

You should see the key listed on the boot screen before the Windows logo
screen appears. Have you tried the Del key?

I just tried the delete key. I got the DOS window "apoligize, but Windows
did not start successfully..."
I'm begining to doubt whether I can do it. Apple was helpful only in
installing the Windows drivers. Infrared is not part of the load. Is there a
driver for Ir that I need to download from Microsoft?
Thanks

IIRC IrDA is not available in Windows. There is no driver listed in the Mac
Drivers for Windows.

See the FAQ at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306823.
Scroll down to the list of included drivers.

You can ask in the Apple Discussion at
http://discussions.apple.com/categor...categoryID=237

I just fired up my MacBook Pro and selected the XP partition and then
realized that Macs don't have a BIOS. They use EFI
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensi...ware_Interface.
