i'm trying to communicate with a client's computer using hyperterminal -
they're in a different city and i don't have physical access to their
machine. i know they've got a winmodem and when they run hyperterminal and
select the "soft modem" entry in the list for "connect using" they don't get
any response when they type "at<enter>" at the terminal screen. also, the
status line indicates "disconnected". i know the modem works because they
can use it to connect to the internet. what's the problem? do soft modems
not work with hyperterminal? thanks for any help.

instead of selecting the soft modem try selecting the com port the modem is
on (1 or 3 ) from the drop down window.
