Can't switch back to multiprocessor HAL

I had overheating problems with my dual-CPU system, which
were eventually solved by replacing the power supply.
While troubleshooting I pulled one of the CPU's and
changed the HAL to the standard ACPI PC via the Device
Manager. Now I can't switch it back; the SMP HAL is not in
the list (even if I uncheck "show compatible hardware")
and System Restore doesn't work. How do I get the SMP HAL
back without a complete reinstall?

I need to make clear that you can do a repair install, not a clean
install, so you won't lose your data or application settings.
