Cant stop color printing

I have a Win 200 Pro PC that is hooked to 2 different printers, a HP DeskJet
and a Brother multifunction Laser.
There have been several times when I have had something that I wanted to
print in just Black and White, but the original is in color. I have gone
into the printer preferences and selected Black and White, but the print out
is always in color. This happens on both printers.

How can a tell a specific job to print in just B/W?
