Can't start Outlook 97 under XP Pro

I had previously installed Outlook 97 on an XP Pro computer but had never
used it there. Now when I try to start Outlook it immediately gives the
message, "Outlook.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." The
following gave the same result:
- Uninstall and reinstall after clean boot
- Compatibility mode

Is there a problem running Outlook 97 under XP Pro? If it makes any
difference I have Excel 2003 installed. Word 97 runs OK. (Outlook 97 runs
fine under W2K on an older computer.)

If I can't resolve this problem, is there another organizer (preferably low
cost or free) that will load Outlook's pst file? (I only use Outlook's
Contacts and Tasks. I do my email through Outlook Express.)

Thanks,
Don Culp

I don't know if OL97 will run under XP, but I cannot see why not. Did
you configure it correctly? Did you check if you find more details about
the error in the Event Viewer?

Pat --

OL97 does not completely load so there is no opportunity to configure it.

The Event Viewer says:
EventID 1000
Description: Faulting application outlook.exe, version 8.0.0.3513; faulting
module user32.dll, version 5.1.2600.3099, fault address 0x000115f.

By the way, OL97 installs correctly on a new XP x64 computer.

Configure it from the Control Panel's Mail applet.
