Can't start ATi DVD Player (MMC 7.7.0.1)

Since I reinstalled Windows XP Pro (all patches), I can't open the DVD
player. Everything else works a treat, but when I try to load the DVD, I
get a dialoguse saying for it to work I must have an installed sound card (I
think that's standard the 1st time), then nothing. If I look in task
manager, I can see ATIMMC.EXE is running but I don't seem to have any DVD on
screen.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Steve

What result do you get when you run the ATi configuration check?

You mean the system compatibility check? - I get the standard "DMA isn't
enabled" problem and the "System Clock accuracy" problem too. I've always
had these in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and it's alway previously worked
ok. I have a Creative SB Live! 5.1 audio card.

This really is crap. I'm trying to send a support email to ATI and would you
believe this...?

--- start
Support in English only
All BUILT BY ATI RADEON 7000/8000/9000 and TV Wonders series products must
be registered online prior to contacting an ATI Customer Service
Representative. All other BUILT BY ATI products do not require to be
registered online.

$9.95 USD per incident charged to your credit card.
--- end

Just how cheeky is that eh? - They f*ck up the drivers then charge you for
getting it put right!!!

*sigh*

I've often had the DMA not enabled message, Steve; it's usually because
you're using an IDE controller that the ATi app can't communicate with. But
I've never had a System clock accuracy problem, though.

Which version of MMC are you using? It might be worth trying a different
version.
