When I try to sign out or shut down Win2k Pro SP4, the screen "greys" like
normal, then just sits there and does nothing, regardless of how long I leave
it alone. If I hit any key, the screen brightens and I can use it like
normal. I've never seen this before and I'm really not sure what to do about
it. this is happening in a lab on almost all of the PCs. Any help would be
great.

you can try an emergency shutdown
press ctrl alt del

then hold the ctrl button and then click the shutdown button

you will get a warning, click OK
