Hello,
I am having trouble with Outlook. I receive e-mail without any problems, but
I cannot send. A message comes up saying "Send test e-mail message: Outlook
cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to
receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service
provider (ISP)."
I am using Office 2007, can anyone help me?
Thank you.
Sol

Have you tried "Test Account Settings"? Tools-Account Settings, highlight
the account, click Change on then click on the "Test Account Settings"
button. Report any error messages here.

What did your server administrator or Internet Service Provider say when you
contacted them per the instructions given in the error message?

Thank you Gordon,

The message that I put before was the message of that test. "Send test
e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP)."

Thank you.

Thank you Tom,

To make a long story short; they don't want to help me. The reason is,
because the account which this e-mail is connected to is closed. However, my
question is, is that true that because they closed the account no outgoing
mail will go thru. Or may be that I have an issue with Outlook, and that is
reason why I can only receive and not send.

Any suggestions?
Thank you again,
Sol

Why would they tell you the account was closed if it wasn't?

If an account is closed you won't be able to send mail through it. Just
like you can't deposit money into a bank account that's closed or charge
things on a credit card account that's closed. If the account is closed it
effectively no longer exists and you can't use it.

As for whether or not they're lying to you about being closed there's no way
for us to know, but I can't imagine why they would tell you they had closed
the account if they didn't.

Oh, you expect that a bank account that you close will still be usable
to you? Just why would anyone let you continue using THEIR resources
when YOU chose to no longer subscribe to their service? You are no
longer a member so you don't get the services provided to their
members. Pretty simple logic.

When an account is closed, it could be a month or until the next billing
cycle before they disconnect all services for an account. So you might
be able to receive for a short time after the account's offical
termination but they definitely don't want you sending anything to abuse
their terms of service (since they already exercised the maximum and
only control over your use of their services).

In a short time, you won't be able to receive from that account, either.
Why would you even be using an account that you closed (or they closed
due to your violations of their terms of use)? You really want your
senders to continue using an e-mail address that is dead (or will be
very soon)? Why haven't you told all your known senders to start using
your new e-mail address?

If the account were closed, you wouldn't be able to receive messages either.
My guess is that you're not authenticating properly to the outgoing server.
