Had the same problem, nothing worked, not even downloading windows mail
updates and security patches etc. After several hours of frustration found
out that my outgoing mail server was misspelled for some reason. Open
windows mail, click on tools, then accounts, then click on properties, click
on servers and make sure your outgoing mail account is spelled correctly.
Better check the spellings for the incoming mail account too & everything
else while you're there. Don't know how this problem came about but
correcting the spelling solved my problem!!
