Can't send emails out of outlook

This seems like a silly question, but I have my gmail forwarded to my outlook
2003 program and I am getting all of my messages in just fine, but it's not
letting me email anything out. The error message reads:
"Unable to send test Message. Please verify the E-mail address field."
Obviously, I have checked and double-checked, and my email address is
correct, as well as my password. I have gone through the help provided by
gmail and by outlook and can't seem to find a solution to this. Any ideas?
