What happens when you try to send email? Give the complete error message.

What anti-virus are you using?
Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident program.
Beside that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail.

Hi Frank
I have email scan turned off in my antivirus prog - but what do you mean by
the phrase 'by the regular resident programme'?
But I have it on in the free Zone Alarm - i.e Mail Safe, 'the important
supplement to antivirus software'.
Should that be off as well? I cannot say I notice a great difference when
sending or receiving mail.

So the error message is identical in both cases:
a) when you try to empty the Deleted Items folder, and
b) when you try to send?

Somehow I find that hard to believe.
Is there a message stuck in the Outbox?

The anti-virus has (should have) a part that is resident (running all the
time). This will catch any virus you try to open or save without having the
addition of email scanning to slow down email and screw things up.

I've definitely read of users having problems with ZA's Mail Safe. Anything
scanning email will slow it down and cause problems.
