I've read through many support listings on not being able to send email and
can't find one that deals with my specific issue. I'll try to be succinct,
but provide enough detail that many someone can help.

Situation:
Time Warner Cable, RoadRunner Internet service
- BEFSR41 Linksys router connected to a Toshiba cable modem (provide by RR)
- 1 LAN port of BEFSR41 connects to a WRT54G Linksys wireless router (only
used as access point)
- 1 WET610N Linksys Wireless Bridge connected to an HP Desktop via Ethernet

I was running this base configuration with PC connected to the WRT54G router
via Ethernet and my mail system (Outlook 2003) worked fine.

I moved the PC upstairs, hence the use of the Bridge. All systems seem to
run without issue, except that now I cannot send emails, I receive an error
message 421 4.4.2 from Symantec that the server timed out and rejected the
email.

If I take the PC back downstairs and connect to the LAN connection again I
can send email. No changes are made to the PC

If I connect back upstairs and shutdown Outlook 2003, then run Outlook
Express as my email client I can send email.

I have been online with Linksys, Time Warner and read as many postings as I
can find, but still do not have a solution to this problem. Any help is
appreciated.

Jim

A very simple fix. The issue is called "Norton Strikes Again". To rectify the issue
you will need to uninstall Norton as per their Uninstall Tool as per the link below.
Then re-install Norton without the email integration (scanning) option.
Post back with result

Peter, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this did not solve my
problem. I uninstalled Symantec, then ran the Norton removal tool (rebooting
server times), then ran Outlook without Symantec Anitvirus installed. I get
the following error message:

! Task ‘(E-Mail Removed) – Sending’ reported error (0x800CCC67): ‘
The server Responded 421 4.4.3 service timed out.’

The issues remains that something in the WET610N and Outlook combination
will not allow email to flow into my ISP's smtp server. If I run Outlook
Express as my email client the mail works fine, or if all I do is unplug from
upstairs into the LAN jack downstairs email works fine using Outlook.

I've tried to increase the timeout, but that has not changed the result.

After some more testing I have been able to get Outlook email to work with my
WET610N bridge. I'm not sure of the exact fix, but it appers that BEFSR41
was causing a delay, or caused RoadRunner to think it was spam (I'm not
sure). I made two changes, first I installed my WRT54G as the gateway
(hooked up directly to the cable modem), then I configured my local server
for DNS and DHCP. After I did this email started to work outbound.

The reason I put the BEFSR41 as the gateway to start with was that I could
not apply the static IP address of my local server and keep the DNS IPs
supplied by RoadRunner when I was using the WRT54G as the gateway. I suspect
the primary cause was something in the BEFSR41 and WRT54G combination that
when a wireless connection was made it would not allow the email to flow
properly.
