I've read the other posts but none of the tips have helped thus far,
including http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090. Does any one
have any advice?? Here's my error message...

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: For Saturday', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server:
'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error:
10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Thanks!

The Microsoft fix you referenced should only be used when you have
an undeletable message stuck in the Outbox or one of the other
mail folders.

I'm assuming you got this error while sending from home, while
you were connected to your home ISP, Comcast.

If so, it is likely that you are running a non-compatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

I've uninstalled Norton and am still unable to send the messages currently in
my outbox. Here's the error message...

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: For Saturday',
Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

From the Comcast Help Forums FAQ:

0x800CCC0E

The connection to the server failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

OR

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

This error indicates that Outlook Express is being blocked from
accessing the Comcast email server. This can be caused by either:

1. You have a firewall application that is blocking Outlook Express
or the ports that is uses. Make sure your firewall is set to allow msimn.exe
full Internet access through outgoing ports 25 and 465, and incoming ports
110 and 995. If you need assistance with configuring your firewall program,
please post a new topic in the E-mail forum and indicate what firewall
program you are using and also mention the Outlook Express error message you
see.

2. Enable SSL for the incoming (POP3) or outgoing (SMTP) mail server
(this is indicated in the error message you get). To enable SSL for incoming
(POP3) server, open Tools->Accounts, double-click on the Comcast email
account, click on the Advanced tab, place a check in the This server
requires a secure connection(SSL) under the Incoming Mail section. To enable
SSL for outgoing (SMTP) server, open Tools->Accounts, double-click the
Comcast email account, click on the Servers tab, place a check in My server
requires authentication, move to the Advanced tab, place a check in This
server requires a secure connection(SSL) under the Outgoing Mail section,
change the 25 in the field above this to 465.

It is quite possible that Norton corrupted that account while it was installed.
So, delete that mail account. Restart Windows Mail, then re-create that
account.

Make sure you are not running any other third party security products
like firewall, anti-spyware, etc. The Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender that come with Vista are fully compatible and should not be
disabled.

I've tried the link they suggested to repair and compact and that does not
work either. My problem is that I can no longer send. It says that it is
connecting and then it says it is disconnecting. Then nothing. I can
receive though. Anyone have this problem?
THANKS

Hi Gary!

I am using Trend Micro Anti virus. I turned it off and still nothing. I
have a DSL line with AT&T. Since I have a router, I've tried working
directly to the DSL and with the router. Neither work. My interent works
fine and my receive works fine. Not sure what else to try. Would going back
to Microsoft Outlook 2003 help?

Thanks!

Outlook 2003 is a lot more stable than Windows Mail, and if
you have used it before, so much the better!
