Hello,

I have this Toshiba notebook that came with Windows XP Media Center
(2004) SP1 (all updates). I was going to ugprade to SP2, but I can't
seem to force chkdsk /f via cmd.exe. chkdsk tells me that it will do a
disk check and repair any problems after I reboot. After I reboot, I
never the see the light blue background with chkdsk running. I also
tried Tools' Check Now, and same result.

If I do a chkdsk without /f or /r parameters, then it says there were
inodes errors and couldn't fix because I didn't use the parameter. Am I
doing this wrong or something?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Ant,
Try to include the Volume you want to check with check desk command like this:
Run >> CMD >> CHKDSK D: /F /C /I Hit [Enter]

Another to try is CHKNTFS D: /F
To see if the HDD/Volume is dirty.
Read this may shed some light on your case:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314835
Also look in the Event Vioewer for Error Records on your System and look for
the Error or post them here.
Did you try the sfc /scannow on a Run Command?.
HTH.
Please write back.

It's not my laptop. Plus, it is out of warranty (my father got it in
early 2004).

OK, I decided to do SP2 upgrade which took like two hours in total (did
archiving with it). After the upgrade and reboot, it did chkdsk! Weird.
I wonder if that was a bug in SP1?
