Can't see workgroup computers

Hey guys! I have a wireless network with 2 XP Pro computers and 2
Win Me computers. 1 of the XP Pro computers is connected to the router.
On THAT one, I used to be able to View Workgroup Computers and see all
of them there, but now I'm not. I know things are working right because
I'm able to do drive mapping on all of them. The others can see that
one XP Pro, but not vice versa. Does anyone know what I could do to
remedy this problem? Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for your posting. If I understand correctly, one Windows XP computer
cannot see other computers in the workgroup, while other computer can see
this computer.

I'd like to perfrom the following steps on the problematic computer to test
the problem:

Step 1: Turn On NetBIOS over TCP/IP
-----------------------------------

a. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click "Network and
Internet Connections".

b. Click Network Connections.

c. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

d. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.

e. Click the General tab, and then click Advanced.

f. Click the WINS tab.

g. Under "NetBIOS setting", click "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP", and
then click OK two times.

h. Click Close to close the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialog
box.

i. Close the Network Connections window.

Step 2: Start the Computer Browser Service
------------------------------------------

a. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

b. In the console tree, expand "Services and Applications".

c. Click Services.

d. In the right details pane, verify that the Computer Browser service
is started, right-click Computer Browser, and then click Start.

e. Close the Computer Management window.

Please feel free to let me know if this resolves your problem.

Sincerely,

William Wang

I am having a similar problem. I just tried your remedy
and still have the same results.

I am on a wireless network (one desktop computer and 2
laptops). One laptop had to have a hard disk
replacement, so I am building everything back slowly.

I am writing from the "rebuilding" laptop, so you can see
that I can get to the Internet thru the router. The
desktop computer can see the network (My Computer | My
Network Places | Entire Network | Microsoft Windows
Network) and my laptop is listed. But clicking on the
laptop gives the error message, "Ed-laptop is not
accessible. ..."

My laptop can see the network name, but clicking on it
gives the error message, "Ed Still Law [the network name]
is not accessible ...."

I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

Yes, that is correct. I checked what you recommended, the NetBIOS over
TCP/IP was enabled and the Computer Browser service was started already.
Just to be sure, I restarted it. I STILL can't see the computers in
the workgroup. Very strange. Do you have any other ideas? Thanks!!

Can the computer that is connected to the router see itself in the
workgroup?

Based on my research, this issue can occur when some anti-virus software is
running. I'd like to disable all the anti-virus and firewall temporarily
to test the problem.

Also, please try connect another computer to the router to see if the
computer also exhibits the same problem.
