Can't see my own newsgroup posts in Windows Mail

Hi

I can see all newsgroup posts on the newsgroups I subscribe to except my own
posts. I know they were posted because I can go to
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups and view them in Internet
Explorer fine.

This started around the 3rd of March. Before then I'd been happily using
WinMail for newsgroups for a couple of years without issue.

I've tried resetting the local cache files - no change.
Can't see any options on WinMail to "ignore your own posts".

Windows Mail is version 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205) is that's any
help.

Just realised that this isn't strictly true.
I remember now that sometimes I had to repost to see my post in WinMail.
I've noticed that this resulted in duplicate posts on the newsgroup viewed
through IE.

So the problem was intermittent for a while and then 100% from a few weeks
ago.

Just tried Outlook Express 6 on another machine - same problem.
Is this a back-end optimisation I'm running into?

Well you do know that NG posts don't show up until you leave the group
and come back or you manually or automatically do a "Refresh"? You can
set things to read them every X minutes like mail, but that is not my
preference with larger groups. Some groups on some servers do not show
new posts for minutes or even hours.

There probably is an option to "Ignore User" and I seem to recall this
often happened with Outlook Express, easy to click on by accident and
all that, but I don't have and Windows NG stuff set up on this machine
(Using Thunderbird) so I can't be specific about where to look.

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your suggestions.

These are posts missing since at least the beginning of March. WinMail has
been launched many times since then. I can see the posts from everybody else
in the threads I am posting on within a short time. My posts of the last few
weeks NEVER get displayed in WinMail or OE.

The "ignore user" option sounds interesting but I can't find an option for
that. I've checked OE as well in case I set this on a different machine but
no way to ignore users there either.

Is the "Include this account when checking for new messages" check box
relevant here? It was unchecked so I've checked it and forced posts to
download again but no appearance of recent posts from me.

You indicate you access newsgroups with WinMail and OE, yet
the posts you've made to this newsgroup were all via the web interface.
Not sure what that's all about. The web interface can be quite flaky.

There are two settings in Windows Mail that may keep you from seeing
your posts:
1. Go to Tools, Options, Read, uncheck "Get 300 headers at a time".
2. On the General tab, uncheck "Use newsgroup message rating
features". Microsoft has acknowledged that there is a bug in the
Communities features that may prevent messages posted under
that feature from appearing.

Hi Gary,

Am using the web interface as it is the only way I can see if my posts
appear or not.

I tried the settings you mention but none of my messages appear.

I'm not sure whether turning off the Communities feature in WM will
retroactively correct the failure to see previous posts. However, it
should definitely prevent that problem from happening to future posts.
