I've tried various options on security levels in Internet explorer and yet
there are still sites I cannot see the images on, only the image placeholder
- what else can I try? I think I have most of the relevant software, ie
Flash, Shockwave.

Hi Jan :-)

Nice name, by the way. :-)

You don't mention which version of Windows you have, but, I'll take a stab
at it,

What happens when you open the site? What do you see?

First - if you have McAfee, turn off McAffee's Privacy.

If you have any 3rd party programs installed, such as Google or Yahoo
toolbar, or popup blockers, disable them. I you have Yahoo Companion,
uninstall it.

Post a link to one of the sites where you are unable to get images and
someone might take a look at it for you.

Do you have an accelerator supplied by your ISP? If so, try turning it off.
It works by reducing image size (and therefor quality) for downloads.

Try clearing the IE cache. IE>Tools>Options>General>Delete files (and
delete offline content.)

Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

Kerio Personal Firewall and any other anti-advertisement software you have
on your system will also do this.

If still no joy.....

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Click on the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Multimedia section and make sure the box "Show Pictures"
is
ticked.

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer

Flash and Pics Control -

disables images on a site for even faster downloading.

If you have SpywareBlaster, make sure the Flash Killer is not checked.

Hope this helps.
