Can't SEE audio display

I have a video of a concert, and also a professionally recorded CD from the
same concert. I've been trying to get the CD track sync'ed with the video
(then remove the audio on the video). The CD track has the long pauses
between sections edited out, so I'm doing it on a track by track basis. It
would be extrememly helpful if I could SEE the audio file..... much of the
time both the audio from the video and the separate audio track are empty --
the music is there and plays fine in both tracks, and it is not so low a
volume that there is nothing to display. All the CD tracks were ripped to
..wav files.

For both the audio from the video and the added CD track a second or two of
audio is visible in the track, then it stops. On one selection the entire
wav file is visible for the CD audio, then the next track nothing is
visible. Is there a way to make the audio appear ALL the time in the track?
Even when it does appear, it's often a light gray on a white background and
not very visible anyway. It would be great to have high contrast AND
visiblity all the time. What am I missing, or can't it do this?

and on a different subject, is this added CD track stereo in moviemaker??
