It may not be your scanner software.
I have seen times, when Photoshop (Elements and SE) has lost its TWAIN
interface and won't work with scanners.
The fix is to uninstall Photoshop, reboot, then install Photoshop.
You get a fresh install of Photoshop and any missing or corrupted files are
fixed.
