Until recently, when surfing the net, when I right-
clicked and hit Save As with a named JPG file, I could
automatically save it as the named JPG file with the JPG
suffix. Recently, the only option I am offered is an
untitled BMP (much larger) file. Any idea what happened
and how to get that option back?

There are many possible reasons. I recommend posting your question in
an Internet Explorer news group, where someone is likely to have the
solution.
