there was a discovery made a while back
that found a version of karpensky had
been reprogrammed to be malicious.
but if you had this illegal version or the
official version is not clear. However
it is likely that embedded something in
the boot sector of your harddisk.
If it
was the illegal version, then it likely
embedded a boot virus. If it were
the official version then it likely embedded
something to protect your boot sector, but
then the boot sector was damaged.
if you cannot access the harddisk
with emergency boot disks and
your installation disks are not
working, then i think you agree
that there isn't much you can do.
there is still a chance for recovery.
borrow someone elses window xp
setup cd's and use them to do a
repair install. You can use
their product key, and can change
it back to yours later.
once inside your windows
check your harddisk for the
i386 folder and launch winnt32.exe
