I need to run the WXP Recovery Console inorder to run fixmbr. I had loaded
Ubuntu Linux onto a separate partition with GRUB being the boot manager. I
can't get into Recovery Console from the OS disc included with my notebook.
Running e:\i386\WINNT32.EXE /cmdcons doesn't bring up the recovery console
option. The only OS disc I have is the Operating System Disk Gateway pressed
for my laptop. The laptop is runnignWinXP Media Center Edition so I can't get
to Recovery console from my WinXP Pro disk.
Suggestions?

That command starts the recovery console installation from within windows.
Boot the Windows install CD-Rom to start the RC

No can boot. Gateway, in collaboration with Microsoft, did NOT include the
Windows Media Center DVD as a stand alone disc. The made a standalone install
program that will only reinstall the OS. I have no way to access the boot
disc. Thank you Microsoft & Gateway.

that command should have put a secondary boot menu option.
you may need to press the f8 key to see the boot menu.

but if you need to fixmbr, then it is likely that you need
to do it via externally like from your windows cd "or"
an emergency boot disk(s) created from another
functional pc with a similar o.s.

to make a cd or diskette format them in file manager
and check the option. Also, ensure that after
it has formatted, those special files indeed transfer
over. If not, try coping them off from that pc...

The PC I have problems has Win XP Media Center Edition. My other PCs have
WinXP Pro SP2. So, how does one make the emergency boot disk? The laptop does
not have a floppy drive.

It had nothing to do with MS. It was the vendor's choice whether to include
the disc.
