Can't run mmc ("Program too big for memory")

Hi,

All of a sudden, my XP Home SP3 system won't let me run any MMC apps any
more. No matter whether I try to run a *.msc file or just get an empty
console via the command line (mmc), the only thing I see is a DOS box saying
"Program too big for memory."

My system has 2GBs of memory, lots of free memory and runs all other
applications just fine.

Any ideas?
