Hi,
here is my problem:
When I want to run WINDOWS\ie8\iexplore.exe nothing happens. The way I
solve
that is by running WINDOWS\system32\wupdmgr.exe, then ie starts so that
means
ie8 is present on my computer.
Does someone knows how I can make iexplore.exe launchable?
I'm running Windows XP SP3 and IE8.
Thank you

Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 and revert back to what you had before (IE7 or
IE6) and see if the problem persists.
* If you installed IE8 and then installed SP3 - you will be unable to do
this.

Use the *correct* executable, which is (by default):

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Don't be trying to use the fileset used to denote how to uninstall the
program. Who pointed you at the Windows\IE8 path for that file?

The folder for iexplore.exe is not added the PATH environment variable
(to find files by their names in the current/working folder or by
searching through the PATH list in the order the folders are listed
there). Opening a command shell (cmd.exe) and running iexplore.exe will
result in "file not found". Many applications are not listed in the
PATH environment variable. Their location is specified in the registry.
For IE, it is the app reg key name:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iexplore.exe

Under there you will find the 'open' command defined that gets used to
load that application. Notice its path is NOT under the Windows folder.
It is under the Program Files folder.
