Hello there! I have recently formatted and re-installed XP, and I have a
sound issue: Media player files, MP3, movie files, WAV on several players and
even the Messemger sounds CAN be hread. The systam sounds, like recycle,
exclamation, start up, and most importantly sound on videos played on the web
- are NOT being heard. I'm freaking out here! I also went to Realtek's
website, downloaded some codecs, and still it isn't heard!!! Is it something
that has to do with the installation method - custom or advanced? I did
custom... Is it something in the regirsty?....
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Try going to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices Icon. Open and select
Sounds Tab. Under Sound Scheme select Windows Default.

First, make sure your speaker is umute and the set the volume to highest (
Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices )

If the speaker is unmute and speaker volume has been set to highest but your
computer still cannot produce any sounds either via MediaPlayer and the like;
make sure the driver for your soundcard is installed properly.

What is you soundcard actually? If it is an onboard soundcard, check the
motherboard documentation / CD.

Got a reading problem?? It works in MediaPlayer "and the like".

I'm afraid YES... lols

So how about this :
Go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices
Choose "Sounds" tab then select "Windows Default" in Sound scheme options.
