I have winxp with IE7, and want to restore the comp back to
Aug 2007, but as it will only go 2 months back, I created a
restore point to Aug 20 2007, but on the last page it gave 2
options on the bottom of the page "Home" or "Cancel"

So checking on "Help" it said click "home" to get the welcome
restore page or cancel to finish, but when I clicked on "Home"
it closed the page and nothing happened.

I tried a couple of times, creating new restore points and clicked
on "cancel" but the same thing happened.

Does any one know please what is going on here?

Yeah, you're clueless about what you are trying to do.

When you CREATE a restore point, it will be at the current date and
time. You canNOT select a date and time on your own.

Good information, but your delivery sucked! You did not have to say the
person was clueless. You could have just answered the call for help without
your condescending editorial!

Do you have any idea why the comp won't go back any further than
2 months?

I want to go back to before IE7 was installed, which is to August 2007.

I have tried 3 different methods of un-install, and but it does not do
a clean un-install. It is still the IE7 "Browser" ( help-about says EI7)

But in win update, it asks to install IE7 as an update for the comp,
and installs again.

Unfortunately for you, I think what he said was correct, and what you *want*

You can't. How far back you can go with System Restore is limited by
two things:

1. How much disk space System Restore has to store restore points.

2. A maximum of 90 days.

And even 90 days is much too long. System Restore is a good tool for
undoing a *recent* change--for reverting the operating system to the
condition it was in a day or a few days ago, but that's all it is. I
wouldn't try to go back more than a week, or two weeks at the very
most, since you run the risk of getting the registry out of synch with
other files on the drive.
