For problems shuttdown and restarting Windows XP, look at this article:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php

As to why your Word documents aren't opening, please provide more
information. For example, are you taking about regular text documents (.txt,
..doc) or documents that won't open up with Microsoft Word? Are you getting
any error messages?

1. Now, I try and open a Word document through e-mail, I think it's a .doc.
It acts as if it is bringing up Word, but it doesn't. I just tryed to open
up Word through the start menu and it is not opening. I am not getting any
error messages. I have waited some time and Word has not opened up through
the start menu either. It acts as if Word is down, even though it has been
working on and off for a while.
Thanks

If that is the case, then uninstall your version of Microsoft Office and
reinstall.

hi..i'm also experiencing the same problem with regards to my computer
restarting instead of shutting down when i click on shutdown, i also end up
manually shutting down my computer by holding the power button. i don't get
any error messages it just restarts instead of shutting down. i've visited
the site that was posted and also the one in microsoft.com but my computer
doesn't have any roxio installed and the "automatically restart" in start up
and recovery is unchecked. can anybody help me? please.....thank you..
