I've just noticed an problem that I can't fathom. I am unable to rename
folders by using the right click and the rename option. The explorer window
just hangs (CPU at 100%) and requires the 3 fingered salute to kill it. I've
got my documents full of New Folder (1) ... New Folder(23) ! I've got SP2
and all available updates installed. AV and spyware scans are negative.
Funnily enough when folders are renamed via software or by auto installers
it works perfectly. I have tried booting in safe mode with no difference.
The folder attributes show read only ticked (but greyed out) - I've unticked
it and pressed OK but it makes no difference.

What process is running at a higher CPU level when this happens.

What system are you running?

Thanks Jason,

It's the Seti@home client, running at 97 - 98%. Killing this task causes a
Dr Watson window to pop up with a send don't send message, the computer is
still hung so I do the 3 fingered salute to kill the folder which is shown
as non responding. Ive got a AMD 3000 Xp on a Gigabyte GA-7VASFS mainboard.
Single 160 Gb drive with DVD RW and DVD ROM. 1GB RAM in 2 512Mb sticks
(sorry don't know the speed)

I'm going to uninstall Seti now, but it did work since this was indstalled.

I've just uninstalled the Seti client - now the system idle process is
showing 99% - usual 3 fingered salute.

start in safe mode and rename from there - or failing that - from the
command prompt

James

Looks to be a common problem in the last 12 months:
