I recently installed software for my new mobile phone (Sony Ericsson) onto
my XP PC - it installed an icon on the desktop which I don't want, but can't
get rid of. If I try to drag it to the Recycle Bin it just shows a black
circle with a bar through it to show I can't do that. If i right-click it,
there is no "delete" option, it doesn't appear in the startup folder (for my
name or for all users), and if I run msconfig it doesn't show up there
either.

Any ideas where it is located or how to get rid of it?

Thanks

Using Explorer with View options to show 100% content, browse to
\Documents & Settings\All Users\Desktop
\Documents & Settings\Default User\Desktop
and see if your unwanted icon is located in either of those locations.

No - sorry, forgot to say, I'd already tried those locations.

is it possible it installed the application to the desk top and what you see is the program and not a shortcut icon pointing to it.
what do the properties of the icon show.

Tweak UI from XP Powertoys allows you to remove certain items from the
desktop. Download and install it. The offending icon might appear on
its list of desktop 'fixed icons' (such as My Computer, IE, etc) which
you can then untick to make disappear.
