In the "this would never happen to me" category. I accidentally deleted the
context of my inbox permanently. There is supposed to be an easy solution -
simply add a new DWORD value to the registry, and the option to "Recover
Deleted Items" appears in the Outlook toolbox. Well, I added the new DWORD
value and nothing happened. Tried it a couple of times, tried rebooting - no
go, the option is not there.

Any ideas?

are you using Exchange server or a pst? That does not work for PST.
