I want to create a custom profile for "capturing" video from my camera.
PapaJohn has one on his website that captures as a WMV file at 720x480 and a
much higher bitrate than MM2's 2.1 Mps. The problem is his files have a PRX
extension and I cannot fin software that will read it.

Thanks. I downloaded the Profile Editor from Microsoft and tried some of your
profiles. Only the "personal" profile would show in MM. I looked at one of
your old newsletters about how to set up a profile so I created my own. My
camera connects via usb so capturing to DV-AVI is not an option with MM2.
Here is the profile I created

Audio and Video use Windows Media 9 codecs
CBR Audio (highest setting)
CBR Video
Format = NTSC
Frame rate = 29.97
720x480
Key Frame Interval = 2
Bit Rate = 7400Kbps
Buffer = 3
Smoothness = 85
Decoder = Auto

I used it to capture a 30 second clip just to see how it looked in Windows
Media Player. The funny thing is no matter how I capture the video, even if I
capture to DV-AVI using my pinnacle software, it all looks the same in
Windows Media Player.

I expected to see a big difference between the MM2 default profile which has
a 2.1 Mbps bitrate and the profile I create and the DV-AVI format I used with
pinnacle. I am new to movie making but based on some of the threads I've been
reading I thought the DV-AVI format was going to knock my socks off. Is the
fact that they look similar in Media Player 10 because it displays in the
same format no matter what the format of the file is that it is playing?

the goal of the various compression formats and optional settings in them is
all aimed at giving you the best possible result... you often have to look
pretty closely at the results to see the differences.
