Hi Everyone: I started having a problem several days ago unable to open Exel
or Word files from the hard, floppy,cd drive or email.I was able to solve the
problem by doing a System Restore.Yesterday all the restore dates were
gone. There was also a new desktop icon for an old version of Outlook. When I
opened the current version I was asked if I wanted that to be the default
email reader.I have done system scans with Spybot,Maleaware, and
Microsoft.Nothing has worked.I started at 8:00pm.It is now 5:00am.Any and all
suggestions or ideas are welcome.Thanks...Joe

What anti-virus programme is installed?

Do you have a spam problem? A lot of spam is getting very clever into
fooling the recipient to click on a link. The nasties resulting can be
very difficult to remove. In some cases you need to detect the malware
using HijackThis and then manually remove the relevant files. This is
specialist work.

Download and run HijackThis and post details to one of the forums he
lists. You may have to wait several days for a reply. Otherwise take
your computer to a small computer repair shop for cleaning. It's not
cheap.

Have you tried the detect & repair option, assuming you have Office 2003.
