Hello !
A friend gave to me his old laptop, IBM T600E, running Win 2000 pro and SP4.
The DVD reader is Matsushita. I can't read DVD +RW or -RW; all other disks
are read (DVD-R, DVD+R, CD etc; I can see movie DVD, also). I have tried to
reinstall drivers for the DVD drive, and also let Windows look for better
drivers on Internet; Windows says that best drives are already installed; the
error is still there, when I insert a DVD+RW or DVD-RW Windows says that
there is no disk in the drive.
Is it an error in my laptop ? Can I do anything to fix ?
Thanks in advance, Enrico (chicchio)

Have you checked that particular model of DVD drive can read DVD+/-RW?

It is a Matsushita DVD ROM model SR-8174-H (it seems the same of -B)
manufactured in dec 1999. I can't find any info on Panasonic site, and only
few on Google.
Thanks, Enrico

More than likely the drive just cannot read DVD RW disks.

....none of which mention reading DVD+/-RW, so there's your answer. An
external drive would be a simple solution (although a T600E probably only
has USB1.1, so it would be tedious at best).
