Can't Re-Install Client for Microsoft Networks

For whatever reason, the Client for MS Networks got uninstalled on my
home machine running Win XP Pro. When I try to reinstall it, I get
"Could not add the requested component. The error is: The RPC server is
unavailable." I have NO ROC server at home, and never did! I've tried
using the XP disc with the "Have Disk" option, but that doesn't help.
Extensive online searching hasn't turned up another case of this problem.

Help!

Did you ever disable DCOM to help cure yourself of blaster or a related
virus?

Very possibly. Where would I look to check?

Well that didn't do it. I re-enabled DCOM, but the problem remains
unchanged.

Still looking for an solution to this problem

For whatever reason, the Client for MS Networks got uninstalled on my
home machine running Win XP Pro. When I try to reinstall it, I get
"Could not add the requested component. The error is: The RPC server is
unavailable." I have NO RPC server at home, and never did! I've tried

Reactivated DCOM, still no help. Extensive online searching hasn't
turned up another case of this problem.

Help!

Doesn't anyone out there know how to resolve this?

Have you manually disabled any services that might be needed?

If I understand your question correctly, I believe that all components
that might be required are enabled.
