Can't Publish Frontpage 2002 sites. (Driving me Nuts!)

I am having trouble publishing my Frontpage 2002 websites to 2 different
hosting companies. At both companies, I have been asked to publish to a path
similar to this:

http://cheapfastresumes.netfirms.com/anyotherfolder/

When publishing to that folder, I inevitably get 1 of 2 error messages. The
first one is: "The server sent a response which FrontPage cannot pars . . .
check to make sure FrontPage extensions are correctly installed." I
generally get this message between 8 or 15 minutes after starting to publish.
The SAME message occurs regardless of WHICH hosting company account I am
using (2 completely different hosting providers).

Or, in other cases (more commonly), I only get as far as the point where
FrontPage says: "Checking [destination server] files .. . ." and then
nothing more happens beyond this point. (I can leave the computer, come back
30 minutes later, and it will STILL say it is "Checking [destination server]
files . . . ". (so I have to click Cancel).

SYMPTOM #1: I am able to successfully publish to the *ROOT* directory in
question without errors: http://cheapfastresumes.netfirms.com/

However, ANY "folder" added to that path produces one of the 2 mentioned
errors.

I want to emphasize, that I *CAN* publish to the ROOT directory . . . but
can NOT publish to ANY "FOLDER" within this directory.

SYMPTOM #2: ANOTHER IMPORTANT POINT: I am able to publish this EXACT SAME
WEBSITE to my other hosting company's sites (GeoHost and Verio) . . . I have
this SAME site hosted with 2 other companies. In both cases (and most
recently tested TODAY) . . . I am able to publish this exact same web to
those OTHER SERVERS with no problems at all.

SYMPTOM #3: It is only the *SUB FOLDERS* (or whatever we should call it)
arrangement on TWO other company servers . . . . they both used similar
"MULTIPLE-DOMAIN-HOSTING" systems within a single parent domain . . . that
have the SAME problem. This leads me to believe that my FrontPage is not
configured correctly somehow to do this publishing . . . rather than point
the finger at either of these 2 hosting companies.

SYMPTOM #4: I *have* tried checking the "publish subfolders" option box in
FrontPage before publishing. I have ALSO tried leaving it UN-checked.
Neither way makes any difference or removes the errors.

I hope this assists your trouble-shooting.

I appreciate your help.

Jim

Are these folder FP subwebs / subsites, if not then you will not be able to publish to them, and you
may also have a problem since your site is a subdomain of netfirms.com.

You might want to consider getting a domain account.

Thanks. I have forwarded your comments to the hosting company tech people .
.. . will let you know what response I get.

Not to change the subject . . . but would I have more success publishing if
I somehow got a copy of Frontpage 2003? (assuming I could find a copy
somewhere) . . . or if I used Expression Web to publish this site? (I already
have Expression Web . . . but I don't know how to "convert" my Frontpage 2002
sites into it yet.)

Just looking for an easy solution!

The version of FP has no bearing on your publishing issues as long as you have applies all Window
and Office service packs.

I see. Well, we're good there -- already done.

I guess the next step is to wait for the hosting company tech person to
respond to your comments to me. I'll let you know what he/she says.

SYMPTOM #5: I have discovered that it is only *SOME* of the folders which
FrontPage is not able to publish to my 3 netfirms domains.
When publishing via Frontpage, the majority of files and folders do publish.
However, apparently some of the CRITICAL folders do NOT publish . . . which
of course screws-up the site and stops things from working.
These "nonpublishd" folders all have 1 thing in common . . . . they start
with an "underscore".

HERE THEY ARE:
_overlay
_private
_themes
_vti-bin
_derived

The "WORKAROUND" I have (for the time being) used . . . is to let Frontpage
publish everything that it is willing to publish . . . then use my separate
FTP software to FTP those missing 4 or 5 folders to the site. But this does
not change the point that FrontPage is NOT WORKING NORMALLY on my netfirms
domains.

QUESTION: Why doesn't Frontpage publish these paticular folders on your
server? (Whereas, FrontPage DOES publish them -- and all the other folders
-- on my other hosting providers which use a BASIC DOMAIN hosting structure .
.. . rather than my netfirms.com "sub-domain" (or whatever we should call it)
arrangement?

SYMPTOM #6:: When publishing my chelanews.com domain, we run into an
ADDITIONAL ERROR. This is the only 1 of my 3 home pages which has a
FRONTPAGE *FORM* on it to gather customer information and forward it to me by
email. This FORM does NOT work. After entering the form information, and
clicking the submit button, we get this error message:

Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:

The following are created on the server when the FP extensions are installed:
_private
_vti-bin

The following published/created when you apply a theme, etc.

The _vti_bin folder will never be published, and (in a normal
installation of the extensions) is not even in your web space. This is
a virtual folder that contains various applications used by the
extensions on the server. Those applications in the _vti_bin on your PC
will probably not function on the remote site.

The _derived folder is always hidden in FrontPage.

"Your submit button is named:

name="Click Here to Figure The Cost"

Remove all the spaces - tag names cannot contain spaces. You can
replace them with underlines, but in this case I would simply omit the
name altogether.

Also check that your host has configured the email transport in the
extensions - some hosts do not allow email.
