I'm using FP2000 (Office Prem. w/SP3-complete install) on
Win2000pro w/SP4. Previously used Win98SE with same
product but SP2. Upgraded to new harddrive with Win98 as
slave (where "old" FP webs and files are currently). My
problem began a couple months ago when my ISP had some
sort of glitch with the server (Apache with FP2003
extensions). Since then I have not been able to upload and
got a FP server extension error which was fixed by
deleting and reinstalling the extensions. Now the message
is "An error occured accessing your FrontPage web files.
Authors - if authoring against a web server, please
contact the webmaster for this server's site. WebMasters -
please see the server's system log for more details." Not
only do I get this message when I try to publish to OR
import from my "old" web to the new FP, I also get it when
trying to cut and paste files such as my images (after
deleting the hidden FP folder) from old to new. Any and
all help or hints anyone can provide is greatly
appreciated and I'd be happy to provide you with an answer
to any Automotive questions YOU may have (I'm an Auto Tech
Instructor). Thanks, Bob.

Can you open the site live? Don't try to publish just try to open: http://www.yourweb.com.

If you can't then contact host, have them reset your password, and reinstall FPSE again. BTW, there are no FPSE 2003, just FPSE2002 and older.

If you can...then try Publising from online site to your local machine, don't Import.

Problem may be more complicated than this, but this is what I'd try first.

Crash:
Tried what you suggested. The "publish" button is grayed-
out so I can't publish to myself. I also get the same
error message as listed below, then the page/web opens.
The page (index.htm) and others are missing the header and
footer (title graphic and counter) while viewed in FP but
appear normal when viewed with a browser. Any other
suggestions? Thanks, Bob

What do you see under File | Publish Web?

Do you actually have a web open, or just a page? The publish button will be
greyed out if you haven't actually opened a web.

File | Publish Web is grayed out. I see, I see--you are
correct--I only opened 1 page although I could nav. to
others via CTRL-Click. How do I open the whole web? I used
the "Edit with MS FP" under File in IE(6)--the only way I
could figure out how to get FP to open anything. And I
still get the error message I listed in the first thread.
I have had trouble at times with this ISP over the years
but they are cheap and the tech support isn't bad (when
they are able to help me). They haven't been able to help
me with this problem, though. They have removed and re-
installed the FP ext. a week or so ago to no avail. It all
started after they "upgraded" their servers a few months
ago (Apache w/FP ext.). My nav. bars are "hand-made" since
I could never get the FP-generated bars to publish
properly or at all. My page counter still works (index
only), although the title bar (a gif file) is missing from
the rest of the pages. Another thing that happened at the
time of the aforementioned "upgrade" was that my links
back to "home" (index) on the other pages developed an
extra "l" (L) as in index.htm to index.html and for some
reason would not work with the server.?. I am prepared to
FTP the whole site but I would have to rewrite the links
for every page (including thumbnails) and I am not looking
forward to THAT! I think my problem is something on my end-
-a security/permissions setting?
Win2000prosp4/Off2000presp3. Thanks for your reply and
help! Bob

Bob -

1. Launch FrontPage
2. Select File | Open Web
3. THEN open any pages in the web you want to work on

Using Edit With MS FP from IE6 is not how you should do editing a web.
Open FP directly and work in that program.

Do not FTP anything as you will break the FP extensions again.
