Xpost to microsoft.public.win2000.printing, follow-up to alt.os.linux.ubuntu
Hi all,
I have a PC with Ubuntu 7.10, which is attached to a network (TCP/IP) with a
Windows 2000 pro PC (not Windows 2000 server!) which acts as a print server.
There is an USB printer attached (HP 3650). The print server works fine, all
Windows PC's in the network can use the printer. TCP/IP print service is
installed and works as well.
On the Ubuntu I configured the printer (lpd://10.0.0.140/HP3650). When I
print a test page, the printer initializes and makes noises as if it were to
pick a sheet of paper.
Nothing happens further. The printer sits there and does nothing. In the
print queue on the Windows 2000 machine I can see the following:
Document name: Test page, Status: Printing, Owner: root(10.0.0.150), Size:
4.00KB/7.27MB, Port: USB001.
The job sits there, nothing further happens and I can't even delete it. When
I delete the job, it says "Deleting ..." and nothing happens. The job sits
there until I reboot the Windows machine.
On a previous installation with Ubuntu 7.10 on exactly the same PC it all
worked well. Now, with a second installation (after having installed 8.04),
I face this problem. It is a clean installation on a formatted partition.
The Windows machine is the same. Nothing changed within the network.
So - What goes wrong? I deleted and re-installed the driver on the Windows
machine and on the Ubuntu machine. Ofcourse I installed the correct driver.
It still won't go. When I send a print job, it ends up in the queue on the
Windows machine, the printer initializes but won't print and the job sits
there until I have the Windows machine rebooted.
Thanks for your help.
With kind regards,
