I am having problems getting printers set up on a new notebook I've just
received running Windows XP Pro. We have several multi-function printers in
our offices that are set up as local printers with LPR ports. I add the
port successfully either as an LPR port or local port with <ip
address>:<queue name> and the install goes through without error. If I
print as job or test page everything appears normal at the client. I open
the print queue an see the jobs spool and disappear. But, nothing ever
happens at the printers. They have consoles I can view and no inbound jobs
ever appear. I've deleted the printers, ports and even the registry entries
with the ip addresses of the printers in question. When I reinstall I end
up in the same place. I can ping the addresses fine and one of the printers
has an online console I can get to by surfing to the same ip address with
IE.
Any insights on what's going on here?
