I upgraded from 98 to XP. (Foolishly I left the printer connected while doing the upgrade.) Since then I have been unable to print. I have tried 2 different printers (HP laserjet 5L and deskjet 850C). When I try to print the test file, it shows up in the queue, and gives me a fault after 90 sec stating that the printer is out of paper. The printer has paper and can print it's self test pages. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the laserjet 5L numerous times. I checked the HP website for driver updates and there are none. Initially it looked as if the printer was set up on lpt3. Initially there was no lpt1 so I tried to install it. I set the printer properties to lpt1 but it still will not print. I have tried different cables with the same results. I have uninstalled the lpt1 & 3 ports. They are not found automatically when I go to install hardware. I have reinstalled lpt1, but this still does not correct the problem. I believe the problem is with the printer port, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing it or what else to try.
