Can't print from 1 of 2 XP profiles--plug n play issue?

I recently added a new printer (HP DeskJet) using a USB connection to our
computer, which has 2 profiles on it. Only later did I realize that it is
only possible to print from one of the profiles. On the other profile, I can
see the printer in the installed printers control panel area (and it is the
default), but I am unable to print a test page, and no print jobs ever show
up.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer from the affected
profile. XP does not recognize the printer as a plug n play device. Any
thoughts? Again, there are no problems when I try to do this from the other
profile. Help. I really need to be able to print from both profiles! Many
thanks to anyone who can offer advice!
