I need some help. I am wanting to use the remote desktop feature of XP SP2
but can't. In attempting to determine the problem I have discoverd that I
can not ping my computer from another remote computer. I only get the "timed
out" response. I can however, ping my computer from my computer. If that
means anything.

At this point I don't know if the problem is my local host computer settings
(firewall etc.) or if it is a problem with my Internet Service Provider.

I had to select this English module because I am an English speaker, but our
location is in China and we have a Chinese DSL connection. It appears to by
dynamic but my computer's IP address rarely changes... probably due to the
fact that we stay on line 24/7.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at
nbell(remove this)@homeofhope.org

I hope someone can help me.

Thank you!

Is your Windows/External firewall configured to allow 3389 traffic (Remote
Desktop)?

You said XP - Only XP Professional has Remote Desktop.. You have XP
Professional, right?

The "timed out" response is because the echo response is turned off by
default in the Windows Firewall.

Do you have a NAT IP or an external (Internet) IP? (Private like
192.168.xxx.xxx or public?)
(Sounds like public - but need to make sure.)
