I have a clean hard drive and my original full version of Windows XP Pro.
When I go to install the OS, instead of allowing the install it promts me to
put in the cd for the old OS. I have reinstalled the OS several times
without ever having this issue occur. Without the old cd you can only F3 to
reboot. What do I do to install the OS?

What old OS? It would appear to me that your hard drive has a Windows
XP version still on it and that you are attempting to do an In-Place
Upgrade (repair install). If the hard drive is truly clean you will not
be asked for a previous operating system cd.

I have 2 HD in the system. When I go to disk management, I see the disk as
40GB of unallocated space. I shut down the system and unplug the power to the
drive that has an OS and change boot sequence to cd. In effect the computer
should see the blank hard drive. XP loads, I accept the EULA and I select
install, only other choice is R. Windows starts the install and says it can't
find the old OS and wants the cd. It's as if my Full version of XP has
suddenly become and upgrade disc. I reinstalled the OS two weeks ago with
out issue. Reoccurring system file corruptions are forced reformat and
reinstall. Fixes did not resolve the corruption errors. I'm stumped!

It does sound like you are using an Upgrade version. I don't have an
answer to your dilema.

If you are really getting constant sys file corruption problems, and you
reinstalled only a couple of weeks ago, then it sounds as though you have
something elso going on in your sys.

I solved the problem, but clearly something has happened to the cd. When it
prompted me for a prior OS cd I simply inserted one of the many trial
versions of Windows I have laying around. It accepted that and started the
install. When it got to choosing a partion, I siomply swapped cds and the
install when perfectly.
DL, I'll be keeping an eye on the system. The harddrive is ok per Seagates
disk checker, the system runs fine when booting from the other hard drive. It
all seemed to go to heck when I installed and then uninstalled MS SQL 2000
Server.
